fortune
pigeon go off very quickly at any time of the year if they dont have the crop contents removed. In the summer blow fly will be on them in a couple of minutes. I take a fine mesh sack with me and keep them on their backs in the shade and I deal with them as soon as I get home. In the summer I use decoys and dont use the birds in the pattern or they are often very fly blown after a couple of hours.
la bala
Think them blow flies can smell a dead pigeon at a mile.

ShropshireSam
I use hessian sacks to store/transport pigeons in. In very warm weather I soak bags with water and keep in shade. Try to debreast same day or next morning in summer. Need to make sure birds are cooled well if kept overnight....I've had some go off overnight when left in an overfilled bag. Now if I get a good number I store overnight in a chiller at work to make sure they store OK. In winter, OK for stored for a couple of days if temp down near 0.
