Pykie
Anybody use these? I bought some in the week, HP28 24gm 6s. Look a cracking shell and used them today for the first time, shooting corvids coming into cattle feed. Ended up with 18 carrion crows and 2 jackdaws and 2 wood pigeons. However when I collected up the empties, a lot of the primers had come out when fired, luckily not impending on the cycling or causing a misfire. Anyone shed some light why this has happened? My 28 bore is a semi auto and has never had this before with Bornaghi or Nobel Speed cartridges

henry931
I've had primers back out every now and again in a 12 bore auto with high performance steel loads, although I don't think they were gone completely. I assumed the higher pressure they are loaded to was loosening the primers slightly. When the bolt is locked the cartridge and primer is held tight on the bolt face so it can't seperate then. My guess is upon extraction the rim of the cartidge hits the ejector stop and the loosened primer keeps going. I don't think it's dangerous but if the primer falls into the trigger unit it could cause a jam and be a pain to get out It might not be higher pressure though it could just be they use loose fitting primers - you wouldn't know with a break action gun.
