bluesj
On my way home from work on Friday I stopped to watch the combine working and see if the pigeons had noticed yet, and they had 2 hours after cutting they were stating to drop on to the stubble. As things are politically difficult on this farm, I’m 3rd in line on most of it I didn’t expect too much but as the last bit was cut the boss jumps out of the cab and asked If I would like to have a bash at some crows that have been hitting some barley Not the pigeons but it’s a bit more of a foot in the door. Any way it was looking like Sunday would be a washout so Saturday it was. I couldn’t start as early as I would have liked but got set up just before 10 parked the truck a few fields away and as i walked back I could see the birds dropping in and about ten took off as I got to where I had the decoys. The first one was in the bag came within a few seconds for the next couple of hours there was a steady stream of birds then at about 12 they stopped! But there were a one or two pigeons about so I put a few shells out. I ended the day on 38 assorted crows, rooks and jackdaws, 20 pigeon 7 rabbits on the walking back to the truck and a load of wood chips down the back of my neck from a woodpecker looking for lunch in the dead tree I was set up under
