Carman06
Has anyone here made their own stainless pin tumbler at all. I'm contemplating having a go and just wandering if anyone has advice from experience that could help. Cheers

markm
I posted the link below about a month ago. I would have thought you would easily get 20 - 30 .243 cases, pins and water in one. Maybe even more depending on the weight. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/316154-case-tumbler-on-the-cheap/?fromsearch=

Carman06
Been a busy day today. Me and my lad have actually made our own pin tumbler. All I need now is some pins to get going. Still looking for the ideal drum/container but got something to try out. Ideally looking for a drum approx 8 inches long and 5-6 inches diameter. 1066
Our local poundstretcher has stainless steel biscuit barrels complete with O ring seals about that size for less than £5.

Amazed
Have a look at gem stone tumblers And for the tub you could try 4 inch pvc soil pipe with a removable screw cap on one each end. 1066
These are the ones I've seen. - Easily drill a hole in the centre of the lid and base and use some 6mm stainless threaded stud and a couple of nuts to hold it together - the O ring will keep it water tight. You might need to screw a small batten to the side to stop the cases just sliding round. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ChilliPepper-Stainless-Steel-Biscuit-Barrel/dp/B00VCDN3Q2
jam1e
I've looked at a few steel pin brass tumblers. The price is just a big P*** take. Like most other things to do with shooting... My mate showed me what he cleaned some of his coin with, when found with a metal detector. Funny enough, it was the same principle as turning brass. Just a lot cheaper.... There's a link below. I'm not saying this site is perfect for all. But it shows you the difference when used for coins and not brass cases. http://www.kellycodetectors.com/products/tumblers/#P1
1066
I've been using SS media for the last two or three years - I really wouldn't use anything else now. My tumbler is a rock tumbler but nothing that you couldn't make if you were handy. This is my machine in action and a quick overview of the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcyAkj-LzA8
Carman06
Cheers guys. Have the tumbler all built and working now. Cost so far £0. Have a barrel to convert tomorrow so hopefully will just leave the media to buy. So far this will be the only cost at around £20 off the bay. It's not a pretty thing but seems to work and hasn't cost anything to make yet so happy.
