Found this thread in Feb and have read from the beginning. Think you're doing a great job!!!

Re the door locks- do you have the plastic covers that came with the County?

Also, there's a cover for the auxilary gauges- they're still available from here:

Saying that. The new handles should have the black plastic handles on them anyway. Time will tell as they came this morning as I was leaving for work.

now the confusing bit, just done some digging but not got my head round it yet,.

got home from work today thinking i will get the new locks in the doors, so got tools and locks together and up stairs i went, then i thought id get my old locks out just to make sure everything was the same, so down stairs i went in to the garage, where first i notice my old door bottom had a hole for the key lock in it, and i knew that my new door didnt, this is my old door bottom and old locks and striker :no:

looking on paddocks website it claims the doors with the lock holes in are for stage 1 vehicles and some military vehicles, and that the locks like my old ones are called anti burst, looking on internet at series 3 land rovers, even the CSW, some have the hole for the locks and some dont,

so it seems iv half or this door and half of that door :lol:

question is, do i get some anti burst locks and drill a hole in the door :unhappy::unhappy:

or try the new locks iv got with the different strikers

Funny that I just fitted mine this evening. Well I say fitted I worked out I need to paint the captive bolts and nuts before I actually fit them as the new ones come with sweet FA in terms of fixings. I bought new doors and locks and them seem to fit OK.

Another fun item today, have you tried fitting vent seals yet? Tried to fit the rubber Paddocks ones and didn't even bother getting the glue out. One the lookout for the foam versions now.

I seem to have spent 3 hours actually doing nothing.

:lol: i spend many hours doing naff all, to tried the vent seals yet but will be soon as the galvanising place that melted mine have bought me some more and should be here anytime soon, did your doors have the hole in for the locks or are they like my new ones, and what strikers do you have and are your locks anti burst?

iv just ordered some new strikers so hopefully all will work out :good::good::good:

My new doors look exactly the same as the ones they replaced and the locks were the same too so I am hoping the striker plates will be fine.

The vent seals are the ones that seal the flaps to the bulkhead, apparently you need to use the foam Defender ones, not the rubber series ones.

and not like the ones i had on mine for the old doors :good::good:

iv looked at loads and there all different, i wonder of the anti burst were a upgrade/conversion, after market or a later upgrade or something, ill have to do some homework on this matter as its bugging the **** out of me :lol: cheers FS :good::good:

I am not quite sure what happened in 1982 as loads of parts seem to be from 82 onward. I need rear tailgate seals and they seem to be freely available for 82 onwards but not so for early models. Mine is a mash up anyway as the car is a 78, the rear tub is from late 60's and I have a defender rear tailgate.

I have 2 - the one you saw is so i can have it sign written and the other is the genuine one. They are easy enough to swap so I thought why not.

Might get "One Wife - Livid" put on it.

now its just taken me an hour to fit one door handle, couldn't figure out for the life of me how it went and was bolted in, it looked easy enough but when i first did it it kust looked untidy wirh nuts and bolts hanging out, so took it off tried to tidy it up but impossible as there was no way of doing it, couldn't work it out from the parts manual, i guess it just didnt matter in them days,

so the question is, does it look right :hmm::hmm:
