good evening gents.

its my birthday next week and her good self has said that ive got £500 to spend on shooting gear .

for the last twelve months ive been looking at home build nv , ive trawled the net for hour after hour until ive found myself to be totally baffled by it all , and i mean i just havent got the foggiest idea where to start.

i wanted an add on that i could just swap between my .22lr and .243 , from what i can see , i would first need to buy a pair of pa scopes at around £250 each , plus the add on , and then hope that the add on will work with them.

i then thought about the pitch black nv but decided against it .

im now thinking about the yukon photon xt 4.6 , i was going to put it onto my .22lr and just carry on with the lamp for my .243 , i must have watched just about every video on the net with the photon , on some it looks great and on others it looks real tat , my main questions are , will it be good enough to shoot rabbits at 100yrds day and night ?.

please dont point me towards nvuk , im totally baffled with it all now and i just cannot absorb any more info , can somebody tell me what to buy please.

cheers guys :good: .

Try the Ward D Mini mate. £350 for the add on £30 for a DSA then pick up a couple of second hand PX scopes such as hawke type airmax or maybe some leapers ect and off you go!

Or if you can stretch the budget a bit go for MTC Mamba lights which can be picked up for about £100 each second hand and are the dogs do das for NV add ons.

An excellent bit of kit is the Cobra Merlin with DSA. I have used one for many years on various calibre rifles. When used in conjunction with a good IR 'light', I could spot fox sized targets up to 300+ yards, and rabbit sized ones up to 200+. Mot the cheapest on the market, but excellent quality. As with all add on's, it works best with a PA scope, but can be used with a non PA one too.

Morning guys.

Thankyou for the advice, its given me even more food for thought.

A shooting mate, pw membet, has alteady built a handheld spotter for me and its fantastic, he was thinking about making an add on so maybe thats the route to follow, i just didnt fancy the hassle of buying and fitting and learning to shoot with two new scopes.

Thanks again for the advice gents.

I have built my own NV kit which attaches to my scope and utilises a small screen which also mounts to the scope. They are so easy to build. I was confused as to what to do at first but I read quite a lot and then started to collect the pieces I needed to make the build.

Main items are:

sony E700 ccd camera

Battery from ebay

project box to mount everything in and on

pulsar DSA

Floplast plumbing bits for cam mount

cheapo screen from ebay

Total build cost is about £180 and I can mount it to any scope. I can see easily 300 yards with the right scope and ir torch.

If it helps, I got most of my information from here: http://www.nightvisionforums.com/
