Sir Peter Scott

This wonderful man was Chancellor at the University of Birmingham and presented me with my degree in 1982.

My name was called, I went up on the stage and shook his hand, receiving the certificate with the other. He was familiar to many of my generation from his TV work, he was not a big man but imposing in full academic regalia: he was, of course, a serious academic. He said something like "Well done, lad" or "Well done, my boy", a warm, manly, handshake and then back to my seat, trying not to smirk like an idiot.

Thirty three years later, the mention of his name still produces a little warm glow............

Like the majority of Wildfowlers' I would also be a fan of Peter Scott and his works.

I would have been aware of most of what the article has said' but enjoyed reading it all the same.

One thing that does stand out however' especially since it is a shooting related article' is the photo of his Self portrait. I have read somewhere or another that it is common for the likes of the WWT and rspb when using the photo ' to omit the Gun across his lap. Maybe it would have been better for the Article to Contain the full photo with Gun and cartridge belt visible..!

I am in no way attempting to High jack your thread and hoping this may add rather than detract from it .

I had some footage of a documentary that featured P.Scott on VHS and I copied it on to DVD and uploaded it. There is some talk of his Wildfowling days by his Wife and friend' I think in the first link.

some may find it of interest.
