A good afternoon on the stubble

Not quite the success others are having and far from the ton! Still, a good result for a couple of hours on the wheat stubble this afternoon. Sorry about poor photos...only had the phone camera.

Found a flightline, settled in just odd to one side with a tree line to my back, set up the hide there and put the decoys out from 20 to about 45yds mostly facing into wind.

Started bringing the birds in almost straight away with shots taken on the incoming birds or left to right crossers from 25 yds out to about 70 yds for two kills.

Impressive shooting at 70 yds.

You may need another hide net to go round the bottom of the net you have as it is pretty see-through.

Yep, I have a scrim net which I might bring out next time but they still came in with this one which was a lot easier to carry over the distance I had to drag everything on my tod!

Well done mate :good: Its not all about big bags, its about getting out and enjoying the surroundings and day :good: BB

Yep, well done.

Thanks guys. Yes, really enjoyed a few hours away from the grind and surprising just what can be learnt from 15 minutes spent watching the area before setting up to get the best position. Just getting out is always good. The shooting's a bonus! The longer shots surprised me as the birds dropped stone dead. I had mis-judged the distance and only when pacing back to the hide I worked out a good 70 yds or further for a few of the shots (Clear Pigeon Nr 6's used).

I have gone back to these for decoying after finding the SIPE too punchy for decoying even in my heavy OU. The Gamebore Clear Pigeon 30 grm 6's are all the cartridge you'll need for not only pigeons and corvids, but also I find them to be a great bolting bunnie stopper.

Ran out of them just a few days ago and stockists being somewhat limited around here am currently trying Cheddite 30 grm 6's, and have had some spectacular kills ( and some abysmal misses, though I can't blame the cartridge for that  ) with them through half and half on pigeons. All in fibre. Well chuffed.

I got mine from Just Cartridges who hold plenty of stock. These days I only ever use those or Just Cartridges Extreme Game (all in fibre wad) for just about everything. The Extreme Game have less recoil and pattern better in my 686. If I did more decoying, a 20 or 28 bore would appeal.
