Cyber
Made myself a gun lamp the other day. Couldn't afford to get a new one untill next month and I had sold the logun just before I got the new permission (doh!). Didn't cost alot to make. I am using a 12v scooter battery (sealed unit) connected to a LED red car brake light. It is well bright enough for the ratting we do there, wouldn't be bright enough for rabbiting though but thats why I will be getting a deben next month. What you think? Cyber
cheers Pin, certainly works ok and I must have had it on for 3 and a half hours lat night non stop and it was still going strong (LED's don't use hardly any power atall hehehe). I can even quickly detach it without any faffing with screws and its secure as hell when its on. I'm chuffed with it anyway

Teal
I could do with setting up one of these, where did you get the LED lights from?
Cyber
got the LED bulb from halfords a while back. I used them as break lights but then realised thet my break bulbs are dual zone ones. I used some black guttering/plumbing tube from b n q. Like I say, its not bright enough for rabbiting but plenty bright enough for ratting, on saying that, I did get a 30yard rat the other night (could only see its eyes gloing though). I did originally set it up using a car high beam halogen but it was bloody hot and started melting the tube lol
Cyber
just an update, I went to charge the battery today (if you look above you will notice that I left the lamp on for around 3 and a half - 4 hours non-stop the other night). Went to charge it and the battery still has a full charge!!!! Don't you just love LED's. This lamp is absolutely PERFECT for close range ratting. I really am chuffed with it hehehe
pin
It's probably only drawing about .4A, compare that to about 6.5A for a car headlamp
Wookie
Nice work! If you managed to get the beam focussed, you could probably get a bit more distance out of it. Maybe incorporate a reflector off something car-like. mind you, that might make the whole thing a bit large and that's all in a nice tidy package as it is. Looks really nice
Cyber
cheers wookie, I have put the bulb inside a torch reflector which seems to be ok. Do you think putting tinfoil inside to cover the inner of the black tube would help??
Wookie
Not sure. It might just scatter the light a bit more...

Cyber
cheers. So far it has been used for well over 10 hours without a charge and thers way over half the power in th battery still!!!!
Hunter_zero
cheers wookie, I have put the bulb inside a torch reflector which seems to be ok. Do you think putting tinfoil inside to cover the inner of the black tube would help?? No, tin foil will not help. You can buy 50mm focused sealed beam bulbs that will do a fine job, just slot it in place and away you go. John
