Saltings
Been working on this sitting with my cocker since my post which is nearly a week now And I've got now where other than to get worked up and I see my little birch loosening confidence and getting relay sticky So if someone can give some advice that would be great I've had several sprinters and never had this,TILLY is my first cocker so I thought it was another cocker thing try not to force the issue too much as the dog will loose confidence in you try to move on to something else for a week or so and get your little dog happy to work again then go back over the sit on wet grass bit and if she hesitates walk up quietly tell her to sit and rummage in all your pockets for a treat the dog will soon cotton on that the faster she sits she will get the reward also calms you down and gives you time to think then slowly remove the reward for a lot of praise hope this helps also forgot to add if it is the whistle / voice / or hand signal / that she is sticky on , make sure you reiterate the command and it is the last command before the treat Edited October 3, 2015 by Saltings
postie
Thanks for that saltings she's 2 now and going into her first year shooting She's the same on all commands to hup and she's come on good in all aspects of training We had to 're visit the go backs because I started the left and rights to soon and she got Confused my fault. I tried the food didn't won't to sit even for a lump of sausage As big bird said if there sitting there that much further away from trouble/temptation But how far do you push it before you create other problems She came for her cwtch this morning before eating her food so not to bad
Saltings
some are belligerent little ******* the more you push the more they push back may pay to ease up on training as the dog may be reading you too well and is now becoming the battle of the wills , with spaniels bad attention is better than no attention a bit like spoiled brat syndrome if they don't react to your command try, folding your arms and turn your back on them as your body language has changed they are not getting attention
fortune
When the mother in law used to come and visit the wife the spaniel would make a complete nusance of it's self and on one occasion it ripped a bit of wallpaper off the wall and gobbed it out onto MIL's lap as a present. Spaniel was escorted out at the double by the wife and I got it in the ear when I got home and >> I only had a small smile on my face when she told me. The spaniel was reduced to half rations that day by the wife. So was I and I wasn't even present when the offence occured. Guilty by association if you please.
