A VERY DISAPPOINTED possible buyer.

After many questions to dealers when I asked about warranty and their best price all has ground to a halt. There does seem to be a price fixing system going on and non appear to want to go below the minimum.

Almost all dealers agreed with me on the poor wood aspect of these so called Grade 3 models. Probably why a number of Gun Traders do not supply photographs or they state 'coming soon'. One showed a fairly nicely stocked model (not the one in the Browning catalogue or on their web) but the pics supplied were of a totally different gun with boring wood.

Ahhh well I will stick to the old B25's for the time being.

I decided on the new gun because it comes with Brownings 5 year warranty and I thought £1250, which included RFD to my RFD, was acceptable.

The dealer selling the used Utimate Partridges only offered 3 months warranty and would not go below £1100. £150 for an additional 4 1/2 years is worth the extra. The guns are identical bar a little rolled 'engraving'

I am also going to look into having some checkering added to the forend sides. The American issue guns look nicer, IMHO, with it.

I have my Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil at the ready just to get that colour up.

It's now with me and a great looking auto, nice wood and action.

I have fitted the 3R3L, (comb 1/16, heel 1/8)

I think they should have quoted a torque in the manual for the butt bolt which in the wrong hands could be overtightened.

Should I remove that Browning sticker...I am not one for all that stuff.

I am still somewhat confused...as it appears are Browning.

In the latest, 2015, catalogue which has many of the errors found in the 2014 corrected, they still term the Premium Grade 3 as the top of the range yet it is listed £100 cheaper.

I also wanted to list what accessories are in the case.

1. Manual.

2. Warranty booklet (which can be completed online) and various hang tags.

3. 1 x Trigger lock.

4. 9 x front sight beads (3 x white, 3 x red, 3 x green)

5. 2 x sling swivels inc stock screw.

6. 6 x chokes (cylinder, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full, 5cm 1/2 extended)

7. 1 x Choke key.

8. 6 x stock shims (adjust cast and comb drop)

9. 2 x stock spacers (adjust length of pull)

I think, which was proposed by my other half, that a breach flag should be included with semi-autos. I have one arriving today.

I have not had time yet to give it the post factory grease removal and that sticker.

I have also decided, again confirmed by the other half, not to have the forend sides checkered because it will hide the wood pattern.

KID with a new TOY.

Having had a little time to look over the gun in stripped form I am going to remove the magazine cut-off mechanism and replace it with a stainless steel cover. I only use #8 cartridges so it has no real function for me. Also, it has ripped the plastic case where it sits and it will probably do the same to the new gun slip bought for it.

Well it was the first day out today with the Maxus. My son and I visited Spitfire Shoot at Stockbridge, Hampshire. Firstly, great venue, and so relaxing, non of that wait in a queue for 30 minutes before shooting. The weather was overcast but no rain...unlike the morning.

1. We shot the first 100 targets with a Teague 3/8 extended choke fitted and probably had 50% hits. The Teague was hand tightened but worked loose after each stand (20 shots). Maybe not if I had had a key.

2. Changed the Teague out after around 100 targets for the supplied Invector Plus+ 1/4 fitted with a Browning Quick wrench. Averages went up to around 70% and choke stayed tight for 120 targets. Most of the clay breaks were good clean multi bits. Very happy with that choke and probably with use it will be my (our) standard fit.

3. My left hand palm hits the magazine shut off lever which I have planned to remove and replace with a blanking plate anyway.

4. No problems with the rubber recoil pad against clothing and absolutely no pains from my shoulder.

5. No misfires. Although I had one large flame out. Eyebrows are still in tact.

6. We used direct breech loading as well as speed loading and, with the latter, just had to make sure of pushing the first cartridge well into the magazine.

In all a great start and pleasurable afternoon.

Plans, fit the blanking plate and also use the Inv Plus+ Cylinder choke on the next outing.

Had a go on my uncles maxus the other day as I was considering buying one. Bloody great gun in my opinion, so light and no recoil atall. Only thing I didn't like was the magazine cut off catch, and he did say that it's a pain when your in a hide and it catches on the net and pulls your hide down
