dodeer
Thinking of purchasing one of these in the next few weeks. The std 2.0 petrol one. Anyone got one, if so what do you think of them, any problems, mpg etc etc. Tell me what you know. Many thanks,
dunganick
dont own or drive one, however my rents have had a subaru legacy 3.0 for the last 7ish years (2 cars from new) and they have been great, customer service although not as good as it used to be, puts alot of other companies to shame. New car had a fault with brake discs, meaning it required a new set after 22k, however this car was one of the first in the area, so its an early version. great cars, the forester i understand shares alot of its mechanics with the impreza. Boot isnt very large, not wide enough for a silenced rifle.

Dead-Eyed Duck
I've had two Foresters, and the first did 118,00 miles in 2.5 years and the 2nd just a bit less. They are a wonderful shooting bus as the ground clearance is good. The sunroof is the largest that you will come across, for you to shoot from with 360 degree cover. The low ratio box can be clicked in with a flick of the finger on the move, and they are totally reliable - the only problem that I had was a faulty plug lead. Oh, and the sunroof jams easily if you leave the rimmy cases in the tracks They weigh very little, and so will not mark the ground. Major disadvantage is that you can expect 30mpg at best - it all depends how enthusiastic you want to drive! They drive like a car, not a lumpy 4 x 4. However, rumours are that they will be fitting a diesel Isuzu engine later this year. I now use a Honda CRV (not my choice) and would change back to the Scooby tomorrow if I could. Wookie
I test drove a turboS version the other week and it went like a rocket. Handled more like a car than my Fronty or a Disco and was really precise and taught. Absolutely loved it. My one concern was the ground clearance though, it's not as much as a normal 4x4, and that _could_ cause issues, but it's huge inside and they've got a good rep. I guess it just depends on the price though.
Holland&Holland
I drive a subaru legacy myself and i am very pleased about it. Not very good feul economy but the service costs are (very) low and it never breaks down ! Handling is very nice and a big boot. i can take 4 people and their gear for a shooting trip to the UK. Ground clearance is a problem, with the legacy i punctured the petroltank when driving off road so that had to be replaced. Never been stuck in a (muddy) field because of the AWD (4x4). Take a good choice of tyres. I drive a automatic because i wanted a second hand green one and the one i went after had apparently an automatic gear box, and airco, never had it but it is OK. My dad drives a subaru forester and same thing. Very reliable, low service cost. Ground clearance littile bit better but espect no wonders. With forester, boot space is a bit poor to my point of view, then we take a extra roofcase with us to transport the luggage My dad pulls large trailers with it no problems. had a Mitsu Pajero (shogun) loved the offroad capabilities but car was unreliable. So now i am a happy bunny with my subaru.
