Been out on my patch yesterday morning looking for a muntjac, but the cover is still very thick and after trying to ''swim'' through the 4 feet tall bracken, to the spot where the munties like to hang about, changed my mind and a quick change of plans saw me headind to the other side of the 400 acre woodland where is the roe teritory.

At this point i was off to a bad start as once i was out from the brush, noticed that the bottom section of my telescopic shooting stick leg was missing, therefore i had to stalk in as close as possible to allow for a free hand shot.

Stalked through a valley where there is a big clear fell on the other end, and with the wind in my face climbed out on the steep bank and started glassing around in the clearing. It was not long until i spotted a group of roe and managed to identify a cull buck from the group, 150 yards in front along the edge of the woods.. Went back down into the valley and moved quickly towards the deer, covered by the bank , and up again in the clearing, this time only 38 yards from the buck.

At this point the wind changed a bit and the roe started to be wary. My buck stood up looking straight in my direction, so i rested my shoulder against a pine tree, shouldered the R8 and i could clearly see the buck chest in my crosshair. Double checked no other deer is behind my buck and squizzed the trigger and the buck fell on the spot.

I was pleased to see it was a very healthy animal, with a thick winter coat already, and not a single tick on it.
