Gavin_d
Hi guys, hope you are well. I've been meaning to join basc for a few weeks but chose not to as I wasn't going to be doing any shooting till the new year. However I could use there advice on an issue that I have. Do they give advice for non members for a fee or can I join and they will help me with something that happened before I joined. I'm sure they won't but cannot find a lot on there website. Thanks. robbiep
It all depends on exactly what the advice is about. For legal matters you'll certainly be able to get advice from their firearms dept, but you won't have any legal cover, so they're highly unlikely to take on an existing case / refusal / prosecution. Grandalf
I think you will find the fee would be so high that it would be cheaper to join.
big bad lindz
If its not to personal and you think you need advice, ask on PW. There a number of professional, legal type members on PW who might be able to help or someone may have had a similar issue in the past. Most advice is usually free initially, its when someone has to do something (research, letters etc)that a costs start to be involved
David BASC
We do not typically give advice to non members, our services are paid for by our members, so they always take priority Davdi
Gavin_d
Thanks guys and thanks David. If I register you still won't be able to help will you as the issue happend before I joined. Be like taking out car insurance after you have had an accident. I want to register but wasn't going to until after Christmas as I wasn't going to be doing any shooting till then. David BASC
It depends on the issue. If the event that took place before you joined and has led to revocation, part revocation of your certificate or a refusal to grant, than the legal expenses insurance will not be available ot pay for a court case. However, our firearms team would still be in a position to do all they can to assist , again depending on circumstance David

drut
"However, our firearms team would still be in a position to do all they can to assist , again depending on circumstance David" Membership fee might equal cheap legal advice.Possibly if you give David BASC the details by PM he might be willing(nice guy:my take)to advise you better if they might be able to help rather than air things on public forum.
