shinybum
i am looking to buy a pair of compact binoculars for my son as a xmas present, mainly for wildlife watching whilst out hiking, i am drawn to the swarovski and thinking 10 x 25, does anyone use these and what are your thoughts or any other make i should be looking at. Has anyone any experience of buying online from Germany or Belgiun as these binoculars are nearly £100 cheaper than the uk
Andra
The swaros are fine binos assuming you are looking to get him something neat that fits well into pockets. I have used the leica ultravid 10x25 and they are also a top class. If you did not want to spend as much the nikon hg 10 x 25 are a good bino too. Personally I would buy UK for easier problem resolution if one were to arise. Edited November 18, 2015 by Andra
JohnfromUK
I prefer 8x to 10x, but that is a personal preference. Swarovski are excellent, I have (and slightly prefer) Leica Ultravid, but they (and the Zeiss equivalent) are all top notch. Two comments - for a very compact, 8 x 20 is only very slightly less capable, and significantly smaller and lighter - and NONE of them will excel in poor light. You need a bigger objective lens for that. If you are a glasses wearer, check the eye relief suits your glasses.
