spurs.thfc
Hi everyone, as my collection grows I have to buy a new cabinet. Is there any laws restricting me to just the solid steel locker type cabinets or can I use some of the american style glass display cabinets. Id love my guns to be pride of place and on show. Any advice would be gratefully received. thanks

Gordon R
I think this would fall foul of page 196 19.8(e) and (h). If the guns are on display, they will hardly be a well kept secret.
robbiep
Technically, yes, you could have them in a 'display' cabinet. However it would have to be bombproof. Literally. And even then I can see the police wanting increased security elsewhere, the cabinet being out of sight of windows, etc. Far easier to purchase a de-act and hang it on the wall, and keep the 'real' guns in a standard cabinet. Savhmr
I had a friend who built a dedicated gun room in his house. He was forced to go to extra-ordinary lengths by the police for security. He owned a large collection of firearms and had them on display within the room, all mounted within glass fronted cabinet, all having trigger locks and a security wired threaded from one end of the substantial cabinet to the other. The glass was shatter proof but nothing overly secure, but the room....that was a different story! The floor had to be concrete, all walls had to be 9 inch brick/block, windows had to be secure (top notch security glazing) and have steel bars and frame fitted internally. The door had to be steel, steel framed and be deadlocked with several locks. The ceiling had additional security from a fire prevention pov for some reason, possibly due to the amount of ammo stored and was fire rated for 1.5 hours or something from memory. The room had also to carry its own alarm system. That was 20 years ago. It probably varies with each police force and with each set of circumstances as it is all risk-assessment based, but ultimately, going down that route could well prove costly. dougall
I remeber at a gun show many years back a display of handbuilt glass fronted cabinets built from bulletproof glass which were acceptable but boy were they expensive...think the glass alone was £600 and this must be 15 years ago......
