jam1e
Hi Folks. Some time ago, I put pics up of a mixed breed dog we had from a Dog Trust Centre. I asked members what they thought my dog looked like, with regard to breed. I received a post stating a DNA test on a dog to establish Breed, or what mix breed. Anyhow, a friend of mine has paid £200 for a Golden Labrador crossed with a black and white Collie. And in my eyes it looks nothing like the collie/Lab cross my friend had. For a start it has what I would call brindle colours, and a head that looks like a staffey to me! So, he wants the dog DNA'd. I said I would look for the historic post I had, but I can't find it. So, could anyone recommend a dog DNA testing centre that's both accurate, and at a reasonable price. Any help would be appreciated, especially those who have used a specific company. Cheers in advance. Jamie
dougall
I believe they are all done in the States via breeder/vet.
jam1e
I believe they are all done in the States via breeder/vet. Thanks Doughall, I was led to believe it was quite an easy process, and was done in the UK. I'm even more puzzled now!
WGD
Let me get this right, and forgive me if I sound flippant, he's paid for a mongrel, but it's not the type of mongrel he thought he was getting and he wants to spend more money proving what type of mongrel he owns? Is it worth the bother?

Paul T
We use a testing facility very regularly here in the UK. We use it to analyse colour genetics as well as any hereditary defects e.g heart conditions associated in cat breeding. In a lot of cases it's done with a simple mouth swab by the owner.I'll ask the missus to dig out the details tomorrow and what they can test for. Edit: http://www.langfordvets.co.uk/diagnostic-laboratories is the one we use, but it seems to be mainly feline based.
