viking
iv been driving for 25 years now and iv always been on my dads garage motor traders policy as a named driver, my dad retired 3 years ago so my brother who took over the garage now has the insurance, but for some reason he wants it just for him and the garage, got some online quotes yesterday on go compare, if i had 20 years no claims it would be £250 but as one of them rang me and said i could not carry any no claims over from a traders policy that the cheapest they could do it for was £800 with no claims bonus. anyone been in this situation before, im sure someone told me a while ago it should be able to be carried over, thanks, lee
norfolk dumpling
It's unusual for someone of your driving experience not to have owned/insured a car before although those losing company cars are in a similar position so try a few quote engines ie Go Compare or Money Supermarket but be honest in your responses to the questions and if in doubt phone any companies who provide competitive quotes. L=Ve (?) seem to be good for unusual situations - I've phoned them a couple of times and they seem switched on and I was a motor underwriter for 40yrs. team tractor
It can't be carried over as you've not earned it. The normal is that the company will give you a discount to the same amount to get you going. Are you saying your normally on the policy but don't work there?? you won't be covered. You have to work there for a certain amount of hours a week. My mates always did this but have had to stop so it's cost them a few quid now. MrM
I had same issue when I insured with Direct Line after having a company car for 4 years. Wouldn't accept any old No Claims from before that - wanted an extra £100 but ended up giving me a discount instead. Next year went to Axa and they were absolutely fine about previous company car history (I managed to get the companies insurance co to confirm in a letter that there were no claims against the car I had.
