BrowningDJC
Victor saraqueta are very good quality guns. Can be bought for very reasonable prices too.
DanWalker
Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to enjoy delving into the research a bit more now.
JohnfromUK
There is a reasonable book called something like "Spanish Best" by Terry Weilland; recently reprinted. It has a lot of information but be warned - it is a little out of date (written perhaps 20 years ago) and also a little American orientated. figgy
If you stick to the better makers and get a good one it can be an investment. Buy a poor one or from a lesser say maker unless it was a bargain in first place it would loose money. The AYA countryman is a nice gun and better value than a Number 2. A Silver coined finish AYA Model 53 is another very nice sidelock and has gold washed locks inside. Gunmark Royal is in my eyes a nicer gun than the Arrietta Crown even though Arriettas made them along with Garbi. Nicer engraving to my eye and a bit rarer. Seen one for sale that had been bought new only used for game and not used many days a year it still had its original box and paperwork. I Ummed and ahhed too long and missed out on it, don't know if it sold or not as it was on guntrader for sale in Northumberland but advert expired. Was gutted I didn't just buy it. A wise man said the best time to pick a mushroom is when you first see it. If you find a nice gun you want don't dither to long. JohnfromUK
Several AyA models have gold washed locks internally, but there was a period when it wasn't used (during the 1980s I believe). Models 53, 56, No 1 and I think No 2 all do in the right years. Strangely, the 'top of the range' Senior model didn't have the gold washing. The advantage (and as far as I can see, the only advantage) is a better corrosion resistance. I don't know if it was used by any other makers?
