I have 5 rifles:

Sako Finnfire 94s .22LR

Anschutz 525 .22LR (S/A)

RWS Titan 3 .223

Weihrauch HW60J .17HMR

Air Arms SE90 .22 air rifle

I have 5 scopes (in no particular order):

Nikko Stirling 6x40 AO Mountmaster

Nikko Stirling 6x40WA Silver Crown

Burris 3-9x40 Fullfield II

Hawke 3-9x40 IR (non-AO)

Hawke 4-16x50 AO

Just wondering what you'd put on each rifle?

Sako - Nikko Sterling Silver Crown

Anschutz - Hawke 3-9x40

RWS - Burris

Weihrauch - Hawke 4-16x50

Air Arms - Nikko Sterling Mountmaster.

This would be my choice.

Well, the Air Arms, RWS and Sako are all like that - it's only the other 2 that are the other way around. It means losing the IR on the HMR but it is a longer range rifle (not that the lack of AO seems to affect the .223). Was thinking of selling the Anschutz so may bolt the Mountmaster to it. Difficult to judge which is best, I'll set up a test target to peer at

I think I'm a +1 with this match up.

Likes of the HMR and the 4-16x50 is a no brainier really... You could possibly switch the Nikko Sterling on the Sako with the Burris on the RWS - but I'd still be happy with as above.

Is it a no-brainer because of the zoom, the bigger objective lens or the AO?

Yes the extra zoom/magnification for me.

If your shooting rabbits 6x-9x is ample, but I do alot of crows too - and find on longer ranges being able to screw up the mag. makes a difference. I used to have a 3-9x40 on my HMR and got on great blasting rabbits, but iv moved upto a 6-24x50 and found it much better on crows...

Although, you do have a .223 aswell - so it depends what you use your HMR for I guess.
