Whatmuff
It seems crazy, ok I'll ring the firearms office tomorrow and see if I can get it done asap. Just wonder how long Cambridgeshire will take. Many thanks.

Very true, what a drawn out job for a one for one. Achieves nothing.

ordnance
It depends what part of the UK you live in. The Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2011 For some time a system has been in place to allow “one off – one on” exchanges of shotguns in Northern Ireland. From 1st December 2011 the system was extended to other firearms. The exchange of rifles and pistols may only take place with registered firearms dealers (not between certificate holders) and firearms may only be exchanged for another of the “same calibre and type”. Prohibited weapons are excluded from the provision. Transfers must be notified to PSNI within 72 hours by both the firearm certificate holder and Registered Firearms Deale

Savhmr
It's a one for one variation. Reason they have to have your cert back in and do it that way is that the serial numbers must be recorded so that all legally held firearms can be tracked. Still, it would make more sense on 1F1 variations if we were left to exchange details with the RFDs and just inform licencing within 72 hours or something. ordnance
Reason they have to have your cert back in and do it that way is that the serial numbers must be recorded so that all legally held firearms can be tracked. Here the dealer just puts a line trough the firearm that you have on your FAC, and writes the serial number on your FAC of the firearm you have bought, it does not go to the police.
