Remington 770

I own a Remington 770 nothing wrong with it, a cheap good quality rifle, I have read a lot of opinions online I suspect a lot of them are by people who`ve never owned or handled one, same for the Hatsan Escort Auto, I think It`s down to snobbery, one I read said he didn`t like the trigger guard, that was his main criticism. In my opinion you don`t need to spend a fortune, the Remington 770 does as much as a rifle twice the price.

Get yourself one you wont regret it.

I handed one in the shop next to a CZ 550 , Remington 700 and a Tikka T3.

Cycled the bolts, lifted and mounted them etc etc

The Remington 770 was the only one I thought was rubbish, the bolt wouldn't cycle very well at all, several times would stick whilst going back and forth.

Maybe it was just that rifle, maybe not. I read up about it also at the time and lots of people mentioned the dodgy bolt cycling.

I liked the Tikka best and also the Rem 700 was a nice rifle although the CZ had a lovely trigger you could set, cycled well and I liked the wood stock over the 700's so I personally had the CZ 550.

We used to sell them in a shop I worked in, along with Browning, Sako, Winchester, Ruger, Savage, Marlin etc. etc. The 770 is I'm afraid cheap for a reason. If you are spending that kind of money I would buy a Savage. They might be butt ugly, but they shoot really well. The 770 is a waste of money but its your money to waste at the end of the day. I would go to a shop and try handling one yourself.

Sadly 'cheap' US guns do not transfer to the UK market well at all. They end up here as, or more expensive that European alternatives of far higher quality. Take 5 European rifles at a grand and compare them with 5 US ones, there is just no point. When Remington 700's were good money they were good rifles but recently the Bergara B14 has just blown them out of the water. Ok there might not be as many options or VERY SADLY a 223 (due to Spanish laws) but in every other way its the rifle the 700 should have evolved into.

Plus one for this, I was looking for a .243 recently and have ended up with a Bergara b14 in the hunter stock and just can't fault it, shoots .4" groups with factory ammo and is light enough to carry all day long, and all for £600! Can't go wrong in my opinion
