Tad-blody
I've got a friend lined up to make me some sub 1oz shot bushings on his lathe for my Pacific 366. I have examples made from steel (Lyman) Aluminium (Pacific and Mec) Brass (Mec) and Plastic (Lee). Opinions please on the best material to get to make the ones I want. Tad-blody
Thanks, guys. Saddler is Delrin what Lee bushes are made from?
mick miller
Also called acetal. Very hard wearing and stable, machines extremely well. Edited April 7, 2016 by mick miller
Tad-blody
Thanks Mick Miller. From what I've seen (admittedly on the popular online shopping site) delrin/acetal is a pound or two more (for the equivalent diameter and 300mm length) than Aluminium. Is it worth the difference? Where would I be likely to find it on a local basis?
mick miller
Last lot I bought was off the bay of evil. It was uber pricey I have to say and painfully so when you watch 90% of it pile up as swarf. Aluminium is, as you say, the better priced of the two and machines well too. I'd be inclined to go down the aluminium route if it were me.

Aluminium and plastic will wear in time. Note that the top press makers like Spolar, Dillon and Ponsness Warren use steel, when it would probably be more profitable to use plastic or ali..... TONY R
Steel is best for wear, but as pointed out aloy is easier to work, i make any custom steel shot and powder bushings i need for any presses i have from aloy much of the time, some pat made reeding round bar bushings here in stage four and five of my production. Tad-blody
Thanks Pinfireman and TONY R for your input. Those Redding round bar bushes must be a nightmare to make.
