Catamong
I'm no ballistics expert like Cookoff or johhny on here, however I recently dissected my usual 28g clay load alongside the 28g steel load I use for pigeons over decoys. The photo below shows pellets from a 28g Baschieri & Pellagri Italian HV Sporting lead 7.5 in the left hand pot, alongside a Gamebore Black Gold HV 28g steel load in 7.5 in the right hand pot. Just look at the increased number of pellets..!! Small wonder they kill birds so well at reasonable ranges over decoys through a fairly open choke, (I use Light Mod, 3/8). What do you think, it's odd but the steel pellets actually look more like lead, i.e. dark & dull..? Cat.
aga man
Interesting, the black gold are 2.5mm i believe so slightly bigger the the 2.4mm on the left. That should mean more pellets in the left hand shell? Are both of the shells plastic wad out of interest?

The big difference of course is that the left hand pot contains 28g of Lead pellets, whilst the right hand pot contains 28g of Steel pellets, both are Plaswad. Cat. aga man
Also noticeable that the left pot has a multitude of sizes in it!
Catamong
Also noticeable that the left pot has a multitude of sizes in it! Probably a trick of the photography, that is a top quality load, I don't recall seeing any variation in size, hopefully johnny will be testing some soon, I would appreciate his comments as to the shot quality..? Guest cookoff013
The big difference is the differential between the density. That being 7.8 / 11.1 = 0.702. So steel shot is 0.7th or 0.7x the weight of the lead. ( pellet the same size) these calculations can be used to calculate weight, mass, volume as long as the comparisons are about weight or volume. What is notable is the ballistic difference which isn't easy to calculate. HV shells are still limited to 400-410m/s when lead shells are 1300 at best.(no speed limit)
