Airline delay compensation

Our flights to France were cancelled recently due to strikes by French air traffic control. We had to fly two days later instead. No extra costs for the new flights, but we lost two days of car hire that we'd already paid for and two days of holiday! The general consensus seems to be that we can't claim for delay or cancellation as it was due to industrial action. Does anyone know if there's anything we can do in this case?

Thanks.

Check your travel insurance policy would be my best suggestion

Sister recently put a claim in with Emirates for a 6 hour delay 5 years ago on a flight from Dubai to the UK. After being initially being fobbed off by the airline she found the relevant regulation and threw that at them. Not very long later a cheque for close to £600 arrived.

Took us all out for supper.

Overall, flying is a lot cheaper than even 20 years ago.

bang on
i know a travel agent she says some people go on holiday with every intention of getting a full refund

We have started to see this with the holiday home in the Lake District that we rent out. Only happened a few times so far but we get trivial complaints with a request for discount attached...
