B25Modelman
While I am aware that to date the manufacture of a gun manufactured in Italy one looks for the proof house stamp which provides the year...of proofing. Typically CL = 2013 CM= 2014 CN = 2015 I also understand that the serial number contains no date reference yet when I have been researching the Benelli Raffaello there is a distinct comparison to manufacture i.e. the last 2 digits. In all the guns I have looked at the last digits have been either 14 or 15. We know the gun was released in 2014 so could they relate to the year. matone
Suppose each manufacturer can use their own system of serial nos.
B25Modelman
I am fairly certain now having looked at some older Benelli guns where the last digit is a letter, the newer ones have two further digits and those I have seen are 14 and 15. B25Modelman
Interesting, I have been discussing another Raffaello Powerbore with a seller and they say the action frame on their gun does not have the Italian proof house stamps as per this on mine. The serial number indicates its a 2014 gun. So should it not have a CM mark on the frame.
Gordon R
Manufactured 2014 - proofed 2015?
B25Modelman
Manufactured 2014 - proofed 2015? The pic is of my gun. The sellers gun serial number has 14 as the last two digits but has no CM proof mark on its frame.
impala59
Very interesting thread, I actually believed that my 'new' Valtro PM5 was possibly old stock when I bought it as the gun is currently made by Brixia. Going by your codes, my CD indicates 2005 so maybe I was right. No problem for me as I'm happy with it. Just goes to show what manufacturers get up to though! There are some letters missed out in the alphabet sequence so CD = 2009. Look here, http://www.shotguns.se/html/italy.html I am fairly certain now that Benelli HAVE started adding date codes to the serial numbers. I was using a new 828U yesterday and its last two digits were 16. Edited July 21, 2016 by B25Modelman
