Glenlivet
Don't really understand all this. I've been all over Europe, Oz and NZ by both car and bike. I now own cars and a BMW R1150. There are Richard heads in both camps. Both bikes and cars are a bit like guns, neither kill people, the operators kill people. I see as many cretin drivers as I do riders. robbiep
Here in North Wales we get all the Brummie / Scouse / Manc 40-odd year old bikers, who've not ridden for 20+ years, buy a big bike, then wipe themselves out doing silly speeds. We have a simple name for them : organ donors. I've known 3 people who've been in accidents with bikers where the biker has died, all round here. 1. HGV driver. Hauling stone on a normal road, uphill stretch, doing about 30mph. Biker comes round the corner towards him, doing close on 100 (from collision data, distance the bike went, etc), with the bike virtually on the centre line, so the biker is over the line. Biker decapitated. 2. Car, female driver, 2 kids in back. Straight stretch of road, speed 55-60 mph. 2*HGV coming towards her. Biker decides to try overtaking both. Fails to make it, nowhere for him to pull back in. She's hard on the brakes when he hits her, her estimated speed 40 mph, his 90mph. Dead biker, she is in hospital for 3 weeks. Kids traumatised for months. 3. Biker doing estimated 110mph in 30 (!) limit hits car pulling out of driveway. Biker lands in garden 6 houses away, dead on impact. Now, I'm sure some whiny biker is going to tell me just how un-representative that lot is. But the simple fact is that I know 3 people who've been in fatals with bikers, and in each and every case the biker was eventually found to be at fault when it came to the inquest. 955i
The thing that annoys me most about motorcyclists is that they seem to think it is ok to overtake a few inches from me. Had one do it today. If I had to swerve a few inches to my right I would have knocked him into oncoming traffic. Oh dear, if I had needed to do something I actually and in future most likely wouldn't need to do that could have ended badly Futile point
