.410 reloading . Recipes

Recommended Posts

If you search the web re lil gun and .410 you should find some load data, but most American forums do not like it they say it burns very hot and melts the mouth of the .410 case. I have always used 2400, A.410, h110 or SP3. All give good results and i will buy what ever the shop has available as 410 does not take a lot of powder so powder price is not so critical when deciding what to use.

Im no .410 reloader, but here are some 3 inch loads off the BP archived loads that use lil gun.

IN THE 3.00” FIOCCHI HULL

Load# 110117-2743 C

HULL: FIOCCHI 410 3.00”

PRIMER: FIO616

PROPELLANT: HODGDON LIL GUN 15.0 Grains

WAD: STRETCH

SHOT: ½ oz NP#6 (218 grains, approx. 128 pellets)

BUFFER: none

FOLD CRIMP: About (3) OS410 on top of shot, with #6 pellet, perhaps (2) much depends upon your particular reloading tool and the pressure you apply. Over shot card usage changes with shot size used. (Nudge down, then crimp.)

Result: PSI 10600 FPS 1330

Load# 110117-2741B

HULL: FIOCCHI 410 3.00”

PRIMER: FIO616

PROPELLANT: HODGDON LIL GUN 17.0 Grains

WAD: STRETCH

SHOT: ½ oz NP#7 (218 grains, approx. 150 pellets)

BUFFER: none

FOLD CRIMP: About 2 OS410 on top of shot. (Changes with shot size used.)

Nudge, then crimp.

Result: PSI 11700 FPS 1440

Load# 110117-2744

HULL: FIOCCHI 410 3.00”

PRIMER: FIO616

PROPELLANT: HODGDON LIL GUN 16.0 Grains

WAD: STRETCH

SHOT: 9/16 oz. (246 gr.) NP#6

BUFFER: none

FOLD CRIMP: OS410 on top of shot. Nudge, then crimp.

Result: PSI 11800 FPS 1345

Load# 110117-2745

HULL: FIOCCHI 410 3.00”

PRIMER: FIO616

PROPELLANT: HODGDON LIL GUN 17.5 Grains

WAD: STRETCH

SHOT: 9/16 oz. (246 gr.) NP#6

FOLD CRIMP:

Result: PSI 12700 FPS 1400

Thanks . I've been looking about on the net . Found some data but nothing using cheddite hulls ,With a fiber wad .would using different hulls to that on the data sheet be dangerous?

I cant answer that i dont do anything with .410 but in other ga guns swaping from a fiocchi to a chedite wont make one or the other load a death trap, they are not the same but i think if you reduce the load to start with by say %5 you should be good, and run up to the data load watch for issues, i doubt you will get any Fiocchi to chedite problems if you take care.

In 28ga the fiocchi case volume is greater than cheddite , if so with .410 then you may have to reduce the shot load by a few pellets to get a good crimp if you change from fiocchi to cheddite.

Good advice to reduce the load by 5% to start with as the humble little .410 works at much higher pressure than the rest.

I would still keep away from lil gun if at all possible.
