Guest
Saw a stubble field today with loads of pigeons and crows on it. Got me wondering, which pest is more trouble for a farmer?
Guest
Suppose I'll just have to shoot both then?

wymberley
As we don't have all that many pigeon and they're only usually a pest when the grain is ripening, the rooks probably qualify when they do hit. As soon as the grain shows its little green head they're on it digging out the seed. Left unchecked they can soon ruin a field.
clakk
Crows first, its a sheep farm so the lambs are a protection issue,Then pigeons as they also have chickens and they love a bit of chicken feed.
kippylawkid
Pigeons for most of the year. Certain times it's the crows. Lambing time, some of my farmers are very anti carrion crows and delight at every kill, whether it's the larsen trap or gun. Some are exceptionally precious on pigeons and ring you up if they see half a dozen fly over their rape!
