hellier0437
just wondering whether it was possible to reload some subsonic .410 cartridges for use on rats at close range. would it be possible to empty out a live case and then remove some of the powder of should i start from scratch with something like a 303 rifle cartridge fire formed. how much powder/shot should i use?. just asking because all the subsonic cartridges i've seen have been 3" and i've only got a 2 1/2" chamber and i want less of a crack so the rats come back sooner thansk for any help tom
Hunter
First of all - Why? you can already buy subsonic carts far cheaper then buying all the bits and peices, presess etc. Secondly, as for cases, you can buy brass .410 shells for loading, I think they are made buy a company called 'Magtech' if I remember right. Far more simply then modding rifle cases. Remember, reloading is dangerous and has strict 'recipes' that you must stick to. HD will explain more on that Its also an offence to dismantle live carts unless you have a reloaders licence for holding powders. So its a far easier safer option to buy pre made subs. Try Online stores for short subs such as the website 'JustCartridges'

You only need a licence to hold black powder not smokeless. Give reloading a try it will cost you about 20% of the cost.
hellier0437
do you know where i could get the datafrom for the amounts of powder/shot to make it subsonic? (i have not been able to find any 2.5" or lower subs) thanks
henry d
Try Clay and game reloaders but you will probably have to buy the data In my old data book from him he is VERY specific for the .410...... *** Due to the high pressures associated with the .410/36ga ANY change in components will require the load to be re-submitted for proof test *** This also includes the deviation from No.7 shot !!!!!!!!!!! badsworth
Give reloading a try it will cost you about 20% of the cost. I am afraid that's absolute rubbish too - reloading for Shotgunners saves little and is a load of hassle - it is only worth it for specialised rounds and large bores. I know - I've been ********* around with it for ages trying to get the bits for a subsonic 12g BB round. Hushpower make subs for .410's - safer and probably as cheap as anything you can do yourself. Give them a try first.
