roadkill
Well the time is coming and next weekend will be my first shoot day, excited and nervous at the same time. On two of the drives we will be beating out the pens and i was wondering should i cut a hole in the pen on where i would like them to trickle out? Grandalf
You really should remove some of the wire so that the birds can just walk out into the surrounding cover. If not you will get them flying up the face of the wire and injuring themselves. We open all our doors and remove a couple of fence panels and leave it like that for the season. roadkill
would you do this the day before?
rimfire4969
We unpeg the bottom of the fence and fold it up to allow them room to get out on about a 10' length where we want them, mind you we normally still find one or two in the pen that fly out without any problems, Edit to say: we done this a few days before our first shoot and leave it for the season. Walker570
Agree with above. It does help to lift an entire section of the pen on the side you want birds to run to a flushing point. Problem occurs if you sometimes drive that a different way, you may need to lift the lot or non at all. Personally I would not be going in pens this early but every shoot is different and you cannot have any steadfast rule.

Walker570
Hmmmm Different. Obviously it works. I have always believed , you get a pheasant to fly once in a day and they don't want to do it again.
