Unlucky mate, it is true - if hard to see at the moment - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I don't think you ( I mean generally, not you edd) can be a proper driver until you have had your first ticket and your first bump.

just got pulled over for my L plates not being on ( broke) and i get fined and 3 points. im not happy to say the least, and i havent even passed my car test, im gutted ( this was on my bike):):) :(:angry::angry:

The L plates are there for your protection as a learner rider to warn other roadusers that you may not be as good a rider as you think you are, sorry but you deserve the points, we moan when the police do nothing then moan when they do.

My mates brother has just got 3 points on his moped licence and a £60 fine this evening for..... when sitting in traffic stationary, putting his hand in his pocket and looking at the time on his phone.

I know he shouldn't techniquely have done this but really was he being dangerous? He was completely stationary and definately not going anyway and he didn't even actually "use" his phone.

what do fellow PW members think? I am pretty sure it was a a case of him being 16 and the police being a tad harsh. Apparently tonight anyone caught in broadstairs under 18 after 930pm gets a warning, then after that an asbo! Is that even legal?!?

Dan if his engine was running then its a fair cop, almost driving without due care..... the law states clearly that a handheld phone is a no no unless you pull off the road but not like the plonkers we see every day who pull over to answer their phones and are straddeling the solid white line on the nearside edge of the road.

Sorry to hear it. However if you knew they were broken then it's a fair cop, otherwise it is just bad luck.

Shame they are not so hot on these number plates with the incorrect spacing and silly fonts. Now that would be a money spinner for the police.

What, like this?

it is harse the way motorists seem to get stuck on these days when perhaps a warning and some friendly advice would suffice. Unfortunately the days where the copper could exercise discretion have been surpassed by performance led policing that this government introduced. Coppers have targets that have to be met and the focus is on crime detections. it dosent matter what crime , a shoplifting counts the same as an armed robbery , still one crime. Its the same for traffic tickets, only that theres generally no expensive court case to pay for and its an easy revenue collection system. Just my personal opinion anyway.

I agree D2D, that from a legal perspective it was a "fair cop" but really was it necessary? The copper gave the poor lad a right ear bashing, poured over his bike and then escorted him home and presented the fine etc with the lad's parents (app he legally had too? wasn't aware of that one myself!) when really, the boy was stationary, wasn't "using the phone" and certainly had no intention of doing so. In this scenario I feel the bloke went rather OTT and the friendly word would have been both fairer and more appropriate.

Afterall, if you punish someone the same for doing 31 in a 30 as 110 in a 30, then well if your going to speed why not go as fast as you like!? Same punishment regardless.
