I don't know what the purpose of the UN is - it seems unable to take decisions or follow up with proper action. Bosnia, Darfur, Syria etc. It's a basket case.

At least with Russian intervention in Syria it will bring about an end. A civil war like that was never go to end well and there had to be a winner and a loser and both sides are as bad as each other despite what the media want to tell us.

Interestingly on the Ian Dale LBC show none of the callers supported his wet liberal politico view that there should be more UN meetings and more UN resolutions against Putin. Overwhelmingly people supported Putin's plan to leave the enconsed regime in place and to bring about a swift end to the conflict.

Oh how we should have left that entire region alone to sort its own problems and regimes out. But will you ever hear anyone in the Western media say that or actually admit that the despotic Putin has the better game plan or that the world would be a safer and more stable place with the likes of Saddam left in place.

Don't get me wrong I think Putin and Saddam are both despotic and deplorable butchers, but being realistic I can see that that is all that region knows and understands.

Hamster you don't have a monopoly on the alternative news,or the 'real' news.

I'm not disagreeing about the nature of the BS we are fed.

But you made it sound like the middle East was a nice peaceful place before we got there,it wasn't.

They invented mass warfare in those climes, and have NEVER stopped practicing it.

I'm not going to argue the nuances of ancient history here, but most historians believe that the middle East was the area where the first pitched battles between opposing armies was fought,on an organised level.

In fact the word Armageddon is taken from one such early battle at a place called Meggido.

There's also a book called the Bible that details many a pitched battle.

Whether you believe it or not,I can assure you, whilst the west were scrabbling around in the dirt ,the middle East was well advanced in wholesale slaughter.
