vampire
I have fitted kitchens for years, mostly howdens, but have fitted b&q and wickes and its wickes that supprised me by the quality and design of componants plus an 18mm back. If you are fitting yourself, then flatpack is good value. Always haggle on price,it will drop buy hundreds. Go through the itemised list of goods on quote and after you have negoticated price tell designer what items are not wanted. Have a look at elec stores for electrical goods, may be cheaper or better make, adjust quote with designer. Look at plumbing items at specialist suppliers, such as sink and tap. Always go over board on sealing any aperture cut into the work top. When/if tiling, seal w/top then seal tiles when going behind sink, this is a weak spot. Bolt every unit together, fix every base unit to wall and to worktop. And then, if you haven't got plastic fronted doors the kitchen will last for years wherever its from. amateur
We bought our kitchen from Wickes, but price-checked the appliances (which Wickes matched, saving a few hundred) and bought the taps elsewhere. It still looks good 10 years later, but it was installed by a carpenter customer.
Albert 888
After a lot of research and looking about and info off this post,I have gone for a wicks kitchen as is was the best price for the quality I could afford, the salesman was great and we went through all the cost cutting. It's one of the milton mid range I went for in the end with laminate worktops and upstand. Thanks for the info on who to avoid.
Grazy
I've had B&Q, Homebase and Howdens kitchens over the years in various properties but I will only ever use Wickes in the future. My last kitchen at my house was supplied by Wickes (not the off the shelf range) and the quality is very good. All cabinets have solid backs and the after care service is superb. I wouldn't get worktops from them though. Depends what you want but I wanted 50mm solid wood and they didn't do it.
