Registered shoot question

Can you shoot a registered shoot as non-CPSA member as 'birds only' or not?

Did I imagine it, or did I read about having to take out a one day membership these days?

You can buy a day ticket, but there are conditions. I can't find the info right now, but I think I read somewhere that you can't buy a day pass at premier grounds before a certain time or something?

On the two registered grounds close to me you can shoot birds only as a non CPSA member and have to

pay £2.50 on top of the birds only price.

 

I know the ground owner and he's pretty low key about non members. At the end of the day he wants as many shooters through his ground as possible. I'd suggest speaking to the individual ground owners rather than the CPSA, at least you'll get the correct response rather than the CPSA 'Ideal' response.+

At a certain "wasp like" ground not a million miles from you, they will let you shoot their Registered 100 bird Sporting Shoots at the "Birds Only" rate, you don't need to buy a day pass and obviously your scores won't be recorded or passed back to the CPSA.

CPSA regs say no you can't shoot a CPSA Registered event, unless you are a CPSA member. Day membership exists and you can join on the day. Quote below:

 

ELIGIBILITY

6. Registered events are open exclusively to current CPSA

members, members of other national clay shooting

associations recognised by the CPSA, or members of the

public visiting the ground who have purchased a CPSA

Day Pass, provided that:

 

7 A current CPSA membership card (or proof of

membership of another recognised national clay

shooting association) is produced at the time of entry, or

a CPSA Day Pass has been purchased. For Clubman

members entry restrictions apply (see Para G below).

Shooters may join, or renew, their CPSA membership at

the organising club when entering a Registered event.

New members’ scores must be marked “N/ M†on the

electronic file produced by the CPSA “Shoot†program.

OK so it looks like there is some local variations which means I need to call the ground, thanks for your replies fellas

I called the ground (Four Counties in this instance) and they do offer the 'day pass' scheme for £2.50.

It also says you can shoot birds only on their web site if I had looked more carefully

4 Counties is a nice ground, with sensible but not stupid targets, friendly team running the place, and you could always end up shooting alongside Faulds, who goes there now and again.

 

You can also re-enter to have another go..!!

I contacted Southdown about the shoot there on the 17th and the "Computer said no", So it looks like I won't be shooting there as I am not going to join the CPSA for one shoot.

I'm surprised that any ground would turn away potential customers, but my understanding of the "day pass" scheme is that it's optional for ground owners, so they must have reasons but I can't think of what they might be..??

You are right Cat, it is nice, and I like the professionalism of the place plus the fact the clays aren't daft.
