davo
I found that when i was with lothian and borders they were great, when i had asked about get given another .22 lr he said that all i wound need to do is send an application for a variation and he would give me it, wish i had now! The officer for L&B has now moved to renewal of the firearms and he also said that my mate shouldnt of been refused for the 5 shot, its just a new chief has taken over and seems to be akward. How do other people get on with L&B or D&G firearms officers? Very recently applied to renew my SGC and apply for my first FAC through L&B, great guys to deal with , one does SGC one does Firearms so I've had two home visits in the past month, no problems they said, I applied for .22LR and .17HMR, Buy 500 rounds keep 600 of each, I was told there should be no problem with the application. Just a matter of waiting now.

Dirty Harry
.17hmr and .22lr buy 500, hold 600. Brother-in-law has 3x.22 and can buy 2000 hold 2200. He also applied for a 7.62 and 5.56, black powder pistol and rifle and got the lot all on his first application. Harry
Goldfish
Second .22 was granted as I had a dedicated NV unit ready to be mounted Its all about proving need. If in a month you can show you are having to buy rounds every week you can demonstrate a need and you will be granted more, same goes if you are licensed for 1000 and dont get through 500 in a year, see the number fall. I cant stress enough - demonstrate a need by having the evidence.
weejohn
Thanks so much guys for all these replies, i will be phoning D&G first thing tomorrow about getting the other .22 so i can use it for night time shooting with a NVsight , and if they want i will go and see them as i will be going to dumfries anyway. Thanks again, weejohn
DaveK
appeal i may be hard but you might win If my memory serves me well, the only right of appeal is at renewal. Between renewals I don't believe there's any right. Plus, if you get your refusal in writing then you'll have to declare it on renewal because you'll have been refused the grant of a firearm. I suggest you contact BASC as has been suggested (thats what you pay them for) and forget getting it in writing. Dave
rarms
>same goes if you are licensed for 1000 and dont get through 500 in a year, see the number fall. The reason you haven't bought 1000 at a time is that you are reloading that many each time
vole
Sorry to sidetrack but the serious advising seems sorted.I have had my SGC for 6 months and plan to be a life long shooter, one day with my FAC.At the moment the obstacles are finance and lack of someone to show me the ropes in using such serious weapons. My post is to ask you guys who are serious/ professionals what you think of the heavy regulation of owning a Firearm?just reading about the police nit picking over calibres and what you can or cant have and must tits you off big time.I realise that with a shrinking countryside and increasing population not everyone can be using stuff that can kill at a mile or more but this seems a bit crazy. As I say sorry to butt in,just have been giving tha viewpoint of a newbie.Hope you get what you need and want mate. Lurch
HOLD 1500 thats incredible, i really didnt relise how much inconsistency there really was in the uk police forces when i thought they all had the same guidelines to go by. I've got hold 2,500 for .22lr. Hold limits are pointless anyway, think of the headline outrages in Blighty and you'll find that the number of shots fired have been lower than most people's hold anyway.
