FAO Cranfield

Cranners, you closed the FAO Jaminzx7r topic for what I can see as no reason other than that you could.

It wasnt about resurecting old threads, it was about people with minimal exposure to this forum having pokes at other ones when a PM would have done the job.

No I didn't follow my own advice and PM'd the guy before you mention it. He set the precedent.

There's too much nit picking and back biting gone on in the past without people with 7 posts starting it up again and just because someone dropped a boo boo.

As for you Cranfield (chairman of the board of censors), closing the thread .......... what was that all about?

Not quite censorship as it's still there (I think) but next best thing and you've gone down inmy estimation. There was nothing in that thread to warrant it, as there wasn't in the thread it referred to. :good:

And NO I haven't dealt with this via PM as mods often suggest. I'll not sweep it under the carpet like a good little censored boy. Let the world know I'm ****** off :( :D:P

Now that's been said I s'pose a ****'s out of the question? ;);)

You are entitled to your opinion and its all a matter of judgement.

The situation you complained about had already been dealt with by a Moderator, by PM.

The thread you started had made its point and was only going to attract more condemnation for the new member, or alternative opinions from other members.

Neither of these options did I consider very productive, or useful.

That is why the thread was closed.

As I said, its all a matter of judgement.

As Moderators we have to exercise this judgement a few times a day, sometimes individual members will think we got it right, sometimes they will think we got it wrong.

Still we continue to try to please all of the people, all of the time. ;)

But what is the point in having mods if they cant do their job?, which is as I see it to try and temper common sense with fair play, its a catch 22 where not everyone will be pleased and therefor a thankless task.

Tonight we hear that the many "gis some shooting posts" are to be curtailed, IMO a good move, but to some not so acceptable.

This is my personal take on this, and for what its worth think the mods do a good job.

What sort of **** are you looking for then Dave.

I have a tin of it somewhere. :D:lol::lol:

Rough **** is probably the best bet Graham. :good::P Markbivvys about as rough as it gets. Mike will testify to that.:lol::lol:

And for the rest of you there's a fine line between moderation and censorship. Moderation I'm all for and maybe Cranners has made a reasonable argument over parts of this issue. I'm not so sure about deciding how a thread is going to go before it does. Most of us on here are grown-ups, please bear that in mind when you take our toys away.

Yes the mods generally do a good job on here but in my opinion a certain amount of censorship is creeping in and, unfortunately, now and again the mods need to be told. It's part of the life of being a moderator that you stick your head over the parapet now and again. But now and again you'll get it shot at and you'll have to live with that. Or are we in an dictatorship as well? :D

Keep up the good work though :D . And you'll soon find out which isn't I'm sure  .

I don't think Pigeon Watch is really that bad, but like all the Forums I know of, Pigeon Watch is privately owned by an individual, who makes the Rules, appoints the Moderators, holds no elections and is legally responsible for what appears on the Forum.

Is that a dictatorship ?

Don't forget, there is a "Suggestions" section and many additional facilities and other changes have been made at the suggestion of members, its also probably the longest lasting shooting Forum in the UK and the atmosphere on the Forum is usually relaxed and friendly.

Not really a bad place to be. :D

However, like most things in life, I suppose its up to individuals to make their own mind up.

No it's an autocrasy but I couldn't remember how to spell it at the time :lol:

I don't disagree with anything you've said but I did exercise my right to challenge your decision .......... well have a whinge about it. :good::D

If it wasn't such a good forum I wouldn't be on it but challenging the status quo now and again is healthy.
