the last engineer
always found them too finiky, a couple were out of true, and one that wandered within 5 shots where the tension was incorrect, heat affected the groupings major league, any little amount of abuse will send it off again, not what i would use for field work, just my 2 cents worth from real experience, not he said she said stuff. Martin Had my 10/22 for a good few years now. No problems at all.. Barrel tension has never been an issue with the volquartsen beastie. It'd been knocked about, thrown in the back of a landy and still does the job. Has jammed once or twice but a quick clean of the chamber has sorted that out. So from real experience ...............
the last engineer
from your's to mine Dave, went back to my drop forged heavy varmint barrel, will shoot the rear off any volly barrel ive had, still use the vq for target fun, but only target as its not right in the field, if you know what i mean i can run around 10 shots top then they fly. Martin Could be that mine's an early version before they started producing them in any great quantity (just a thought). I've headshot rabbits and hares out to @100 yards fairly regularly although the bosses hmr puts paid to that distance nowadays. Never let me down except when it's been my fault. As a matter of interest what do you feed it on? I use winchester subs which work considtently well.
the last engineer
CCI STINGERS @ 1600 AND CHANGE, good grouping around 50-75yds, hard hitting and deadly. CCI VELOCITOR 1400 " " again good accuracy inside the 100yds usualy i concentrate within 50-75 FEDERAL QUIK SHOCKS @ 1300 AND CHANGE, deadly accurate @50yds devastating on gophers PARTITIONED FOR SEPERATION ON IMPACT,MAX DAMAGE SOME FEDERAL CLASSIC FOR FUN AND HANDGUN good round for close in 10-20 handgun 30-50 rifle, dotend to wander in the wind CCI SHOT FOR FUN IN THE HANDGUN @ SKEET beleive it or not ran a close round of skeet inside 20feet, broke 14 birds, broke only cracked is the better suited word. WINCHESTER SUPS AND SUBS, AGAIN FOR TARGET, sketchy and inconsitent NOT AS CONSITENT AS YOU'D THINK THOUGH. a short history of use, i must add, one of the sleeved barrels i took into work and returned between centers to true up, shot better, offset around .03" - .018" end to end, didnt help of cource. the last engineer
its kinda traditional out here, and the guys take it very seriously, they spend thousands on equipment, me im happy with the 10-22 reliable action and 25 round butler creek mags http://www.alpineoutfitters.ca/alberta_gop...irrel_hunts.asp Martin
kevins
hi thanks for replys anyone used gm barrels? not to unhappy with my standerd barrel will group well out to about 50yards but want a bit more range kevin
A Sick Old Man
If your using sub sonic hollow points I would not bother, this ammo in my humble opinion is not cut out for over 90yds. You could try Lapua which is a better quality round, but its all sub 100yd ammo really, if you want 100yd plus accuracy then get a .17hmr or use Velocitors, both are noisey I only use my 10/22 out to eighty yards, any further I would use my CZ .17HMR Varmint. CharlieT
Kevins I changed barrels on mine the other day and fitted a 12" bog standard ruger one. After refitting a red dot sight I was going to zero it but could not resist having a ping at an empty fag packet on the grass about 40 yds away. To my astonishment all 10 shots hit the target. This says something for the simplicity and design of the 10.22 and the fact that a 12"barrel will shoot fine. I have not yet fired at a proper target and zeroed the rifle but I am confident that it will group equally as well as my 18" barrel.
