lakeside1000
A lesson in checking gear before you leave home was taught to me ( by me ) last Thursday, back on the peas , now getting well up so I decided to take my tallest magnet, the spot was busy all week with birds but mainly moving on a flight line about 100 metres over on the edge of the field, not possible to shoot due to housing along the lane. So I needed plenty of movement in the pattern to draw them over. Arrived on site and unpacked the car, laid out a good pattern of dead and plastic decoys, two good floaters well down wind, picked up the magnet, chose the best spot and pushed in the base, went to fit the arms but wait, "I don't believe it" I have brought the arms off my light weight magnet, they don't fit !! So faced with a choice, pack away and go home for the right arms or sit it out in the hope they will come anyway. Of course I chose the easy option, pour a coffee and grin and bear it. They did not come, at least not many, lots of birds in the distance moving along the lane but only a dozen coming in for a look , finishing early I picked 8, I think the next few times out at least I will be double checking all my gear, it felt a bit like going fishing with no bait, not to be recommended. Me matt
Gutted for you ☹ I had that scare last week- but the arms were buried way down in my large net bag. I always use my work van for shooting, if I had to I could fashion a couple of arms out of high tensile line wire or thin road pins, all heald together with hessian tape lol

fortune
I went decoying and got to the field and unloaded all of the gear and went to get the gun off of the back seat of the car but it wasn't there!!! I had left it back home in the kitchen. Muppet! Load all of the gear back into the car and go back home to get the gun. It was only ten minutes back home so only about half an hour lost but when I got back another shooter had taken up position right where I had planned to shoot. So I had to have another look round to find another place. I have not left my gun back home since.
