figgy
Half choke would be a decent pattern without going too tight for closer shots.
wymberley
Sounds like more luck than anything. A 30gm 6 shot cartridge is not going to have a great pattern through 1/4 choke at 60+ yards. Of course it is. c110 pellets are required in the central 20" circle to be a reasonable 90% certain of a clean kill. This 'sportsman' will only get c72 in the whole 30" one at some 60 yards. Unless, of course it was 40 yards out when he actually pulled the trigger. I'm afraid I won't be convinced until he comes back and shows that he can do it 9 times out of ten. Guest cookoff013
Everyone knows clear cases hit harder. I doubt half the people here have ever patterned a shell let alone a good 10 to average the results. Chokes often don't improve distance, but close up gaps. Now I shoot a lot of full chokes, only opening up to 3/4 if I can be bothered. Not due to the extremities but small shot and choke work well. Game shells are a different beast. Also load dependent. 1/4isn't the answer always. But a staple of yesteryear when. 32g and 36g commonplace. Even for clays. I still get annoyed when discussing loads, such as impax and alfamax hitting 10 times harder than any other shells of similar payload and speed. I fired a lot better shells than an impax and an alphamax. Think of shells as firing money down a barrel. More is better
