Global Warming :good: An early harvest is on the cards round here, rape is looking very good, barley is about ready on some fields and some early wheat ain't looking bad either. We're shooting birds on potatoes (harvested), late sown peas and downed barley as well as clover leys and I was supossed to be having a rest this month

Hmm, I've noticed the recent trend in my neck of the woods is now not to swathe it, but to spray it off to dessicate it, then run straight through it with the combine.

Seems to me like more & more farmers now prefer this method.

Cat.

It is much cheaper to spray roundup and then combine as apposed to swathing.

However there is an even cheaper method of harvesting Oilseed Rape - don't swath, don't spray, just leave the crop standing to dry 'aunaturel' then combine as per the norm - many farms been using this method for ages!!

The may showers which followed that april heatwave seem to give everything a much needed spurt of growth over the last month. Even a lot of grazing land currently has grass too long to see a bunny or fox in it.

We've not had too much sun to dry land out, so a bumper season is coming for crops, silage and hay bales methinks.
