Hi everyone!

In the November 2006 copy of 'Countryman's Weekly' I wrote an article on the Winchester Model 59 shotgun. (The sister of the Model 50, with a 'floating chamber' but with a 'fibre-glass' barrel and the first ever screw-in chokes). These models were the brainchild of David Marshall 'Carbine' Williams of North Carolina. He is famous for the short-stroke piston in the US M1 .30 cal Carbine.

They operate by 'short-recoil' - a stepping-stone between the gas-operated and inertia driven guns of today. These guns will function perfectly on subsonic (1040 fps) shells and are very fast cycling. The closest to these is the Benelli system - and guess what? The first cited name on the Benelli patent is 'Williams'!

In the next few days I invite members to share their experiences or ask questions about these remarkable shotguns. They are a joy to shoot!
