Sealskinz leather palm protection

Evening all,

I got some Sealskinz Sporting Gloves for xmas off the girlfriend. They're fantastic gloves and have kept my hands genuinely warm and dry whilst out shooting..

They got particularly wet yesterday shooting (hands were dry :yahoo:) and I have left them out on a table all night and today to dry out naturally.

The leather palm (which I believe is sheep leather?? Cant remember where I read/heard that) Is now very dry/stiff/rough... what should I use to protect it?

I have some Renapur leather balm which I got at the shooting show last year, will that suffice?

Regards and thanks,

Dave

I also purchased some of that Renapur last year and have used it on all leather things. Warm them first maybe just wear them for a few minutes would be enough and then a small amount of it would not do any harm as it would waterproof the leather for future use.  I have a couple of pairs similar to yours but I think maybe the thinner ones and , yes, I just put them on and within minutes they have softened up again, but now you've raised the question I will be treating one pair and see how it goes.  Iuse it on my boots and shoes and gun slip and let it soak in and dry a bit before buffing it.  Good stuff, not cheap but does what the label says.   I'll be seeking the stand out again in a couple of weeks time.

I just dry mine out and carry on wearing them they are soft within a few minutes of use. Can't imagine mine will last too long to worry too much about them. Pity they are died with water based colouring as my hands come out the same colour as the gloves.

Fair enough mate
