racing snake
Hi all, been pondering one of these for my Tikka T3X in .223 for a few months now, but haven't had the confidence to commit to the purchase (along with the faff of ordering from the States). Just wondering if anyone's fitted one, or one of the other MDT chassis, and were they happy with the fit, was the accuracy maintained, and what was the weight reduction like? Tempted ....sorely tempted....just need a final kick up the backside. Anyone dealt with MDT direct? https://mdttac.ca/products/ess-chassis-system
phaedra1106
I've had a TAC21 which was very heavy! and now got a T3X CTR stuck into one of their LSS chassis, it's very usable and half the price of the ESS. Quality is very good just be aware they take AICS mags not the original Tikka ones. The MDT polymer mags are OK but getting 10 rounds in can be a problem as they expand and can jam, a decent metal mag is the best option, have a look on https://riflemags.co.uk/aics-magazines/ You'll also need a butt stock and a pistol grip, get a decent Magpul or similar. Fairly sure you won't be able to order it from the US as it's over $99 so you'd need an export license as it would fall under ITAR. MDT themselves are in Canada. Have a look at European suppliers like Vertebrae in Norway https://vertebrae.no/int/ or Black Rifle here in the UK http://www.blackrifle.co.uk/Stocks-and-Accessories-s/1823.htm Edited February 10, 2018 by phaedra1106

phaedra1106
Only down side is with the larger calibres (ie. .30, 6.5mm etc.) you really need to buy a decent (expensive!) metal AICs mag to be able to get the best out of your action. The MDT Polymer (apart from being really tight with 10 rounds in it) limits the COAL to 2.800". My Tikka T3x CTR would ideally be loaded to 2.900 to get a 20 thou" jump. Next trip to the US I'll be picking up an Accurate AICs mag, quite a lot cheaper than they are here!. The standard Accurate AICs mag (and the new MTD metal mag) let you load out to 2.875", if you get the ones with the front blinder plate removed they let you get up to 2.950" Edited February 11, 2018 by phaedra1106
Jaymo
You boys are go7ng to end up costing me more money that I was putting aside for a lovely .410 for sale. I might have to go direct as I need a lefty version and they’re not listed as an option on Blackrifle etc
