magpieman01
hiya all just looking for anyone who has experience with the umarex colt saa in pellet version, the pistol is new and ive been feeding it jsb exact as my pro sport loves them, anyways this colt is squirting them all over the place, i get its not a target pistol etc but ive the feeling that maybe the pellet is getting deformed on the skirt slightly as it goes from the inserted bullet case into the breach / barrel ? anyways just wondering if anyone has any pointers regarding what type of pellet might give me better results ? im reasoning i might try lead bb's as they have no skirt to deform but is that ok in the rifled pellet version ? again im quite happy to manage my expectations regarding full on accuracy but a fair number of youtube vids are showing the pellet version grouping less than an inch at 6 yards, be great to get a few pointers if anyone's got experience with these things Edited February 14, 2018 by magpieman01
bruno22rf
Is it possible to open the cylinder and out a pellet direct into the breach before loading up the dummy shell and firing it?-might help resolve if it's an indexing error. magpieman01
hiya bruno, thanx for the reply, ive taken to doing a couple of revolutions of clear sticky tape around each of the bullet cases to beef them up a bit, now theres less play as they sit in the chambers so there indexing more precisely with the barrel, i think the underlying issue is that the bullet cases you load the pellets into are just a wee bit too loose, there is also a little play in the cylinder but its nominal for some thing thats squirting out at around 2.5 ftp, its tricky as ive only ever shot txs and 77s 97s pro sports etc, my guess is most people who buy and shoot these things arnt even aware of any real issues etc but im very critical due to my experience with very accurate springers, it is a great pistol but it could be a really really good one if the tolerances in the action were just tightened up a bit, it is a shame ive had to mod the cases but you cant really notice it, it also means i now have to use the ejector rod to get the cases out but thats how the real single actions roll, im deff a bit happier now, re did my pellet test in to some bunched up fabric and the skirts on the pellets are looking a lot more as they should =)
Mr.C
Whats the tolerance between the rounds and the chamber? Would it be a better solution to sleeve the chambers? Just an idea, not even sure how you'd do it or indeed if it's worth it.
sportsbob
What is the grouping a 6 yards ? the Co2 pistols tend to shoot better witl light pellets like Webley Velocipell.
Rewulf
If you can shoot a pellet into a water tank, so it can be retrieved , see if it is actually deforming the pellet. The cylinder being loose is not good, see if there is any way of tightening it up, likewise the fake bullets, a bit of tape round them ? It seems to have quite a long barrel, if its rifled I would expect reasonable accuracy up to 10 yards, I have used umarex P88, P99 AND Beretta 92F pistols ,and always been surprised how accurate they are at short range, even with quite short barrels. magpieman01
awesome will give them webley pellets a shot bob =) as for sleeving the cylinders, hmmm sounds expensive but would be awesome, im loathed to take it apart to tweak with it as its new and im sure that we're i to take it back and get another one it would be the same =/ i think what we're dealing with here is a pistol that is made the way it is for fluidity and ease of use against production cost, i have lightly taped the fake bullet cases and taken to really making sure the pellets are seated in as far as i can get them so the skirts not being clipped as the cylinder rotates either, im hoping with a combination of me getting more used to shooting it, the taped / beefed up bullets and the right pellet will result in groups tightening up a bit, ive got a bench bag and range finder i use for my rifles so should use that stuff, i will try and get some photos of some groups together when i get some new co2 caps and try a few different brands of pellets through it, its like my old 77, i was so disappointed with its accuracy until i put hn ftt pellets through it, im really hoping this thing ends up hitting the mark, its so nice and weighty, fairly well balanced in the hand and its so pointible its untrue lol sure thing is i'll find out just how good or not these things are, hopefully theres a midpoint between how it actually is and what i know it could be, if i find that place i'll be happy enough =) ps is a big kid with a moderate understanding of photoshop
