wymberley
Help, it's driving me mad. Who was it that had the Subject taxidermy on his stand at the game fairs (also Game Fair) back in the 80s. Ron (?) from Gloucester way (?) a RFD. Cheers. Edit: Could it have been Ron Meadows of Allsports? Edited May 20, 2018 by wymberley

wymberley
I think the problem is is that this pre-dates the WWW as I can't find any info. The upright stuffed fox - dressed in shooting attire complete with shotgun - was his stand show piece. I only ask because he - whoever it was - was the source of the cartridges re my post on the cartridge collectiong thread. You could buy them individually and they weren't cheap. Edit: Could it have been Ron Meadows of Allsports? Do you mean Ronnie Crowe ? Bit of an eccentric. If so, he has (or had ) a gunshop in Great Baddow near Chelmsford, Essex. It was still there about 3 years ago but not sure whether Ronnie is still with us. OB
Old Boggy
Just googled. Ronnie Crowe gunshop is still in Great Baddow, but cannot find out if he is still alive. Remember seeing him at previous game fairs. Always had the shooting fox at the front of his stand. As said, quite a character. OB
Old Boggy
Wymberley, if you google 'Darkroom legend Ronnie 'The Joker' Crowe recalls 50s' there is a video of him. Also picture of him that you'll no doubt recognise in his hat and eccentric outfit. OB Just remembered, his stand was called 'Shooting Bygones' Edited May 21, 2018 by Old Boggy

It's a long time ago and I got my Rons and Chelmsfords and Cheltenhams mixed up. I see he retired in 2015 (but it looks as though his wife is still with the company) and perhaps now that you've pinned him down someone local can say whether or not he's still with us. I spent most of the 80s in the fair circuit with BASC and wherever we were Ronnie was usually there also with his Shooting Bygones - it all fell into place as soon as you mentioned it. Again, many thanks, OB.
