loopy bunny blaster
Hey ppl need some advice , im fairly lacking in my knowledge of shotguns, i have been advised its the way to go to sort out my dad's pidgeon problem, ive tried one of my dads friends shotguns and had some good results shooting from a hide using it, but i would like some advice on what gauge is best to shoot pidgeons with? his was a 20 gauge (i think) and also how hard is a shotgun certificate to get? (ill be fifteen in a few months) there is a clay shooting club that operates down our farm track 600m from my house, if i joined them for a few months before i apply would that drasticly improve my chances? thankyou Tom
Guest oloveridge
you can use a shotgun unsupervised 15 and over and someone can also buy you a shotgun when your 15 but you cant buy a shotgun and ammunition until you 17 and it is not a matter of easy to get a shotgun certificate the firearms licencing dept will take ever case individually most police forces take min of 3 months kent has 4-5 months it is good to show them that you can use a shotgun but most clay grounds wont let you shoot without a sgc and you dont have to join one

loopy bunny blaster
i know about 15 people around 30 years old with shotgun certificates but they are of no relation to me would it be a good diea to get some tuition from them first? (or tuition for the benefit of the firearms officer as i already can operate a shotgun) thanks, Tom

ph5172
Apply for your cert and get your dad (or mum) to apply at the same time. (you see 10 year old lads in the shooting press with their own FAC, or am i mistaken) You will have to have a cabinet anyway and he might even like to come out and have his own one day anyway. Get him to buy the gun or guns and off you go. Or get your mate to buy one and 'transfer' it on to your licence. You could always call your local licencing dept and speak to them... a general enquiry so to speak.
ph5172
Cheshire Police... (i assume thats your area) At age 15: Possess a shotgun certificate. You can see a 15 Certificate film or PG without consent. Try these, if these cant help they will pass you on to someone who can Police Headquarters, Firearms Licensing, Clemonds Hey, Oakmere Road, Winsford, Cheshire CW7 2UA Sharon Deighton 01244 612243 Lisa Ritchie 01244 612162

Ferret Master
I'm 14 and have my SGC. My Dad already has his and we had the gunsafe in place before my visit which was a few months after his. Mine took just over 3 weeks from date of posting application to certificate landing on the mat. You can own a shotgun and ammo at 15 as well as use them unaccompanied on land where you have permission. However you cannot buy it at this age and it must be bought for you. I cannot see the issue if you were to give a SGC holder money to buy stuff for you why it would be a problem. FM
Guest oloveridge
hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm there is a problem he is basicly buying it off the person that is getting it for him it can be given as a GIFT and that is all
loopy bunny blaster
you've read too far into it olov, it basically means you can own one but you cant buy yourself <- laymans terms it dosent say anything is wrong with giving money to a sgc owner older than yourself to buy carts for you Tom
dunganick
if you get a shotgun in the following way the firearms dept will take a very dim view of it. See shotgun for sale: want it, give money to current holder of shotgun but get them to transfer it (written as such) to another SGC holder old enough to legally buy a shotgun, then get this person to 'give' or 'transfer' the shotgun to you (only two ways you can be given a shotgun when under 16. I got in some serious trouble for doing the above, however when push comes to shove, the above is legal, the bit where i got in trouble was that person 2 was actually an RFD, (friend of mine) who'm i got to 'give' me the shotgun. But be warned, this is reading between the lines and you will attract the wrong attention for doing it. Much better to simply give the money to your dad or friend with SGC and get them to buy it.
