salisburykeeper
totally sickening! what a waste! you cant tell me that he was hunting for food or pest control and whats with injuring the lions? it would have been a lot more watchable if it had been the idiot shooting on the end of the gun,its morons like that who give antis ammunition for sensible shooters.the guy couldnt even cleanly kill what he shot! i wish i had been there i would have finished the clip showing the gun being wrapped round his head! im sure the shooting community on this forum dont want to see animals being killed just for the hell of it, most of us here have respect for our quarry and only shoot for food or pest control. so as for asking what size gun? who gives a s++t!! i would be more inclined to ask why is he doing this! purdey
I have no problem with shooting animals.I myself would not shoot a big cat as they are amazing animals but i have no problem with shooting crows, pigeon, smallgame or deer. There is nothing wrong with big game hutning i just thought the whole video and the music was aload of ****, which did make it seem very sick. The people who liked that video aswell as the music are a bad name for hunting. What would happen if there where two videos. One of a british stalker shooting dear in scotland with in nice peacefull surroundings, and one of a stupid american killing loads of animals with some stupid dum *** grin so common for americans on his face.If some antis had both videos which one do you think they would use. Vids like that are bad for hunting.
vole
I believe some African states allow Western hunters to conduct culls etc for them for the revenue.I presume this video portrayed legal shooting. It seems pretty similar to what we do,wether it be driven game, rough or wildfowling etcJust on a bigger scale..The effect of a projectile on tissue is the same. Even if its not to all our tastes I dont think that condemning an aspect of our sport is going to get you out of the anti,s crosshairs. We are all fair game to them,shooters,anglers...Dont get me wrong I found the big cat killing hard to take but if that was sanctioned hunting then if you shoot so much as a rat then you are morally on a sticky wicket to condemn.Providing,I say again,it was legally conducted and for a purpose. flytie
I have a mate, Adrian (.470) who has been plains game shooting several times and has now decided to go for elephant and buffalo in Botswana, where they are a problem and need culling. The government there makes money off the licenses, the local economy makes money from supplying the shooters and the meat is distributed to local familys. Stalking in close seems to be a large part of the thrill, I think it was Robert Ruark who said he wanted to get so close to a buffalo that when it saw him, he wanted it to look at him like he owed it money, and really he would like to be so close he got an idea of how much it thought he owed it! I thought the utube clip was tasteless and badly put together, but as a shooter I can have no qualms about legitimate quarry being shot. Anything else is sheer and utter hypocrisy. We might not want to take part in "double gun days" where the bag gets into the thousands and then the birds are buried (yes it did happen), but who amongst us has not wanted to break that 100 bird pigeon day barrier? Rather like the young girl who was prepared to kiss a bloke for a fiver, then objected to being asked to sleep with him for fifty quid. His answer was " by accepting money for a kiss we have established what you are, now we are just haggling over the price"! There has been some badly informed and rash things said on this subject, it is not my cup of tea, but as the good book says, "Judge not lest ye be judged". ft
al4x
Well said, there are a lot of posts on here by people who know nothing about hunting in Africa. By condemning it without finding out any more they are no different to the average anti that threatens our sport. Some big cats are actively hunted due to being man eaters, if the country can make money out of the activity then so much the better. We all know that shooting and conservation go hand in hand so by allowing shooting quite often it brings money into the area and makes the locals ignore the animals rather than simply killing them to stop them damaging their crops. The same goes for big cats, if you read the forums that are dedicated to this you will find that if their numbers aren't kept in check then they prey on domestic livestock and the locals do have some pretty horrible ways of killing them as they certainly don't have guns. The other side of things is that guy was actually a cracking shot and by shooting late meant the animal was as close as possible for as humane a shot as possible. You simply can't shoot big game at distance and have them fall dead on the spot.
dazzler22
interesting vid, not my cup of tea really, just because of the big cats, I like cats big or small, but then im not against the idea of it, I just couldent do it my self, I do however agree with everyone re: the gun, that has a hell of a punch with it!
