ditchman
alright ...alright "wash yer mouth out"............. im all sthil now......but used to be ryobi.................problem was always the same "the bloody useless carbs".........and to replace they were damn expensive £80 quid plus for a genuine ryobi carb... so i used to end up chucking the machine away even tho it still had plenty of compression in it and looked tidy still any way...my mate has 4 ryobi's and brings them to me to mend and maintain...and his are getting the same problem...carberation..................so i bit the bullet and went onto the internet e-bay and bought a couple of non ryobi carbs at £11.90p each..............a genuine gasket set (if you can get it) for a 30cc ryobi is £25 quid......!! so the carbs arrived...these ones have a modification on them........instead of a main jet which is just a hole drilled in the body of the carb and then blocked and sealed from the other end...these non spec carbs have had a hole drilled in them and a brass main jet has been press fitted into the body............as a result the brass dosnt attract verdigrese like the ryobi aluminium one does......... put the carbs on....primed the carbs...........both machines started 2nd pull .....quick rev up and they go straight onto a nice tickover......... dont thro your ryobi away if you are having starting problems....get a new modified carb at £11.90..... 7daysinaweek
I used to visit a chainsaw specialist on a regular basis who was a sthil main agent and four stroke repair center for all manner of outdoor machinery and would see lots of ryobis in for repairs when you went upstairs to the workshop. What were more common for repairs were mcullochs, seem to recall the lad who was a bit of a character saying that a significant proportion of the repairs side of the business was from the small home use chainsaws repairs. Clogged carbs and jets from being stored with fuel in them and all manner of petrol mowers that would not start. Fantastic stuff Ditchy! Once again your inquisitive diligence has a wider benefit for the pw fraternity who may be frustrated at tugging away at their pistons! atb 7diw
nic
i had problems with a ryobi and the local chainsaw shop said i needed a new carb... suddenly remembered it was a 2year warrantee and phoned ryobi who sent me a 'specialist adjustment tool' half turn and all sorted... still running 5 years on 🙂
