have these sold? If not I'll have them, just send bank details and I will transfer
  8. Is it meant to mail every member every time it does or says anything? it has a committee to oversee how it runs and in what direction...... you can vote on who is on that committee. most cannot be bothered so people are elected on very few votes.... ( just like a general election). there is a wildfowl liaison committee that has a role specific to fowling. If they had to contact the membership every time and wait for people to bother to get back, they would never do or publish anything.
  9. my personal limits have depended nowhere I was shooting. Where I live now I do not take more than 3 geese and 4 duck..... don't think I have ever managed to reach that! when I lived in the NW then it was geese - 2 grey 2 black and up to 10 duck. only managed both sides of that once.

  12. define active? does 2-3 trips per season = active? if not I reckon it would be closer to 50%
  13. Sorry to hear that you are calling it a day. As to staying on the forum, the tales and stories of flights are great to read. It comes to all of us due to whatever reasons- age, commitments etc. The number of members of both the clubs I am in that no longer go out is incredible. I must agree though that fowling has changed. I only started doing it in the early 90's when my military posting made it possible. Then it was seen as the pinnacle of live quarry shooting. Nowadays, I feel too many see it as a cheap entry into live quarry shooting and therefore do not have the respect for them that the birds have earned. We had one person enquire about joining our club who asked how many duck could we guarantee each flight? he was shocked when we said we could guarantee NONE and any more than that was a bonus..... he didn't join!

    how long?

Only 192 days to go not that I'm counting! 😀
  15. got out a few times at start and end of season. the beating gets in the way in the middle. Nit as many duck about this year as normal I felt, although I had a few and a number of geese. still great to be out even if no shots fired.... another they cannot take away

    Due a blank

little blue pill... apparently makes it stand up straight
  17. Well done, land ownership changes the perception of the club with other people nearby and opens up opportunities for conservation projects etc.
  18. yes I do, but there again I was a traffic cop...... One elderly gent after failing to see a motorcycle which was not speeding on a straight road was required to have an ophthalmic optician examination after failing a roadside eyesight test.... after that he was required to wear glasses when driving as a condition on his licence.... he was not doing so a couple of months later when he failed to see 2 horses in front of him and he killed one... luckily the rider got away uninjured..... he gave up his licence then and also had to move house as he could not get by due to its rural location without a car..... I gave him the option of giving up or being done for numerous offences including dangerous driving. another force carried out a roadside check where every other car had the drivers eyesight tested ...... one 87 year old lady could not see the Police car let alone read the number plate at the required distance! she was driven home and a report made to DVLA due to her 'medical condition'. to revoke her licence. there are all sorts of reasons for crashes and some have consequences beyond what you expect. and he will have a condition on his licence that he must be wearing them while driving or he is driving basically without a licence (otherwise than in accordance is the charge wording)
  19. Fantastic kit, what size on the jacket please? if not sold I would be interested. Better quality than sold now! my old one is 12 years old I think and still going strong
  20. Used to be on it, it was a great font of knowledge and very useful for people like myself who have moved about during their lifetime so have to make new contacts in the new areas. Then it became a closed forum and you had to be recommended....that often is the death knell when membership is seen as elitist or exclusionary (clubs or forums). Then along came FB and people went on there. last checked in about 18 months ago and the only new posts were..... Is anyone still here????
  21. morning flight is my preferred time, even when you do not get a chance of a shot, you see the world wake up and come alive..... owls hunting over the marsh, otters moving and their young playing.....and on my local marshes, far less people than the evening flights
  22. stroud auctions this coming week, often have old stuff for not a lot of pennies... now called Harper Adams auctions I think
